Todd Howlett Racing is a country racing training facility that understands the importance of ensuring a horse's strengths are built upon in order to emphasise success for both the horse, and the owners alike. There are a variety of factors that come into play in the entirety of horse racing. The nutrition, training and overall condition of the horse are important factors in a win, but so is the selected race for that individual. Here at Todd Howlett Racing, an individualised approach is taken in all areas. Todd has developed an impressive ability to select races for his horses that play into their strengths in order to optimise results. The warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the dedicated team, allows for a calm work/training environment. This helps to ensure they are of sound wellbeing and able to maintain the capacity to complete their training.
Husband and wife duo Todd and Anika Howlett started Todd Howlett Racing in 1999 with humble beginnings on a 4-acre property in Singleton. Todd has always had a passion and love of animals and has been involved with horses most of his life. Growing up in Singleton, he attended pony club from a young age developing a love for Bronc ridding and camp drafting.
Fast forward a few years, Todd was working for singleton council full time whilst doing track work for Megsy Hewitt and Bob Clarke, here he learned the trade of racing and all that it involves. Enthused by the prospect of running a business, particularly one involving horses, Todd made the decision to take long service leave and try his hand at training his own horses. Finding the work rewarding coupled with sufficient success made it an easy choice to leave his role with the council and continue pushing forward with this endeavour.
In 1998 Todd purchased a mare who was in foal, unaware that this would be the horse to change it all. Sired by Vain Karioi, The Moonster was Todd’s first runner and his first winner in a simultaneous feat in a 1000m Muswellbrook Maiden in 2000. The Moonster went on to become a Group 3 winner among various other feats. From here Todd Howlett Racing’s initial 4 horses grew to be 16. By 2009 they had outgrown the facilities of their Singleton property, and the business was relocated to the 50-acre property at Lower Belford in which it operates today.
Starting with a near empty acreage the businesses infrastructure was established with construction of the 18 stable barn along with the 60m swimming hole. Over time the facilities have continued to expand to now accommodate 40 horses along with a variety of additional amenities that are utilised to optimise performance. Further information on our facilities can be found under the Services and Facilities tab.
